J. Erhardt, Compiler of the Masai-English Vocabulary (1857)

Jakob or John Erhardt was a German missionary for the Church Mission Society who served in the Mombosa area of East Africa in the second half of the 19th century.[1] He compiled the dictionary during his stay on the Suahili coast. With fellow missionary Rebmann he “constructed the sketch map of Eq. Africa, from native sources, which gave the first impetus to the travels and discoveries of the following years.”[2]
